What I've Learned in 100 Days of Painting! (Creative Week #15)

Hard to believe I've been drawing and painting for (over) 100 days now! What I've learned:

It's hard! Like anything, when you're trying to start a new habit, it's not easy. I had to force myself every day in the beginning. I didn't want this project to be stressful but I also wanted to succeed and that takes work!

It's scary! I was determined to put all my work out there – even the bad ones!

It's encouraging! Putting myself out there has been scary but also super encouraging. Friends, family and even strangers have commented on my art with kind words. I've even gotten a few commissions, just from putting it out there!

It's motivating! Not only am I enjoying the process but I want to keep going. I want to paint or draw or make something every day. Even when I'm out running boring errands, my mind is constantly searching for ideas of what I can draw.

It's surprising! Seeing where I was and how far I've come in a matter of months is probably my biggest surprise. I honestly didn't think it would make a difference. I've heard many times before that if you want to get better then you need to draw—everyday! I didn't believe it. But just the fact that I can now start quickly and am less afraid of the blank page, that is a huge step forward!

I still don't know where all of this work will take me and that's ok. For now I'm just looking forward to the next 100 days!
